The Montana Natural Heritage Program provides a reliable, comprehensive clearinghouse for information on
Montana's biodiversity, and since its inception has answered thousands of
questions from federal, state and local government, industry, private
organizations and citizens.
Established by the Montana State Legislature in 1983, the program is located in the Montana State Library, where it is part of the
Natural Resource Information System.
It is also part of the Natural Heritage Network, with comparable programs in all 50 states, most Canadian
provinces, and 14 Latin American countries.
